Okay, so we did not leave on Sunday

There have been some last minute changes such as leaving on Monday instead of Sunday. And, originally there were going to be 6 of us caravaning together from California to New Orleans. Now there are 3 leaving now and 4 leaving in the middle of the week. We will all meet up in Carmine TX on Saturday 4/3. Are you still there? Are you confused? Yes, there are 7 going now.
I left at 9:30 this a.m. in drizzle and arrived 3 hours later in Lodi to meet up with Kris. Connie and Zola were in Lodi to meet us. They are Sisters I have been to Kearn River with the past three years but they are not going to the New Orleans Giddy Up.
The drive to Visalia was, thankfully, uneventful. The vineyards are greening beautifully and there were lots of wild flowers along the side of the road. Hope the deserts are in bloom as we continue to move south towards Tuscon.
We arrived in Visalia and are staying at Kaarin and Jim's tonight. We had a fabulous home cooked meal and had great conversation at the dinner table about Italy, Mortgages , etc.
Another change in the itinerary is that we are not going to Blythe but rather on to Phoenix where we will be having dinner and spending the night at Maurrie's. She is one of the founders of Sisters on the Fly.
It is a beautiful evening in Visalia and the review of the snow covered southern Sierras was wonderful. It was 78 degrees when we arrived at 4:30 and now there is a full moon and a balmy evening. Kaarin's lilacs are blooming just outside The Double Bar O. I think I will sleep very well tonight.
The photo is of both Kris and my trailers in Lodi.

We are in motion now for the Giddy Up. Things are happening.

The California Sisters' Caravan is shaping up - there will be 7 Sisters and 6 trailers hitting the road. Although our route is still a little squishy we are pretty much set. Some of the overnight RV reservations have been made and it looks as though WalMart will be graced with our presence in the far out parking lot as Plan B.

Three of us will be leaving 3/28 from Northern California and meeting up with Sisters in Visalia heading out the 29th for Blythe, CA. We will be joined there by 2 other Sisters coming from the LA area. We are then on the way to Arizona, New Mexico and arriving in Round Top Texas for the Flea Market/Antique/Junk extravaganza for 4/2, 4/3 and on our way to New Orleans/Morgan City Easter Sunday. Unfortunately, we will be missing the Junk Gypsies' Prom on 4/1 but it will be just one more costume I don't have to worry about. Still I bet it would have been alot of fun.

What? You thought we weren't going to stop and do some shopping along the way? Pleeezzzee.....

Wonder if SOTF have a badge for shopping like we do for fishing and cocktail making? Hmmm. Maurrie?

A very wonderful addition to my trip will be my good friend Janet. She is joining me at Round Top. She was "in" the minute I sent her the website and she found out that they have "people on site to take care of shipping". Could it possibly have been any better of a reason? Janet will fly into Austin or San Antonio. We will shop till we both drop. She will stay on the caravan until Monday and then back to the real world for her.

Quickly, my niece's husband was up for a week mid January to work on The Double Bar O and her ongoing problem of no running lights. After much labor, he found the short, fixed it and everything was wonderful until we hooked her up to take her back to storage and - no running lights!!!!

He will be back in March, hopefully, if he hasn't fled the country, to install bumper lights with an outside switch.

Jon worked on other areas of the trailer and outside of a really bad dry rot problem - he doesn't think the left rear corner will collapse under tow - she is really getting to great shape.

Bored yet? Okay, so here is a photo of my finch feeder which is always extremely busy. We have a Barn Owl's nesting box 12 feet up in one of our oak trees to encourage the owl to eat all the damn gophers that are in our lawn. We will see.......

Take care of one another and Let the Good Times Roll..............

The Journey Begins

This is a test run for my new blog which is soley meant as a travel journal for the 2010 Sisters on the Fly New Orleans Giddy Up and will also include Bob's and my travels beyond New Orleans.

Most of you know about the NO Giddy UP. I have certainly bored enough of you with my chattering ons and my exitement. But for those very few who are wondering what in the hell is going on, let me get you up todate:

As you may or may not know I belong to a women's group known as Sisters on the Fly.
Fly fishing and adventures are certainly the foscus but you don't have to fly fish or fish at all. There badgets (much like Girls Scout badges) that you can earn in cocktail making, attending Cowgirl College where you round up and brand cattle, cooking bread in a dutch oven over a camp fire, etc. I will include a complete list in a future posting.

We have three rules: No Men, No Kids, No Pets. There are " Mister Sister" events once a year so the men, kids and dogs don't feel totally left out.

There is so much more about this group but I need to move on before you fall asleep. You will get the idea as I do more postings

The annual national gathering of the Sisters for 2010, is being hosted by our fabulous Southern Sisters in New Orleans, April 5 thru April 11. There are a lot of planned activities and you will be hearing about all of them through this blog.

I will be pulling The Double Bar O in a caravan with my Northern and Southern California Sisters and, no doubt, meeting up with the Arizona gals as well as others.

So, this is my first posting and you are invited to check in for updates and photos, if I can get that figured out. You are also welcome to reply to my blog as well.

So, now the preparation and costume making begins.
